Back In Action

I'm officially back to blogging for the summer and I'm excited at the prospect of actually keeping up with things. My grades are all in and I am definitely relieved to be done with classes.

This past week I have been working as the graphics coordinator for the Austin Symphony field trip performances. While I can definitely handle the job, the security door is another issue entirely. Its one of those doors which opens so counter-intuitively to my thinking that I can never seem to remember on my first try.

I'm hoping not everything this summer is as difficult as that door. I have a new phone, a new attitude and a new dress--which I can wear as soon as it gets back from alterations. I dropped off three dresses today at a new place and I feel like I'm putting a piece of myself in their hands--or at least my favorite flowery number and two of its friends.

For now I'm still trying to get my summer plans locked in but I'm looking forward to the Cage the Elephant and Manchester Orchestra concert on Friday.

Fricano Good Sandwich

Firstly, I recently decided to enter the Twitter world. Follow me if you like my blog, me, wit, sarcasm, bunnies, or actually hate all of those things.

I forgot my camera, but here are a few pictures from Yelp to give you an idea

I may be a little late in the game, but yesterday I went to Fricano's Deli and it was better than I anticipated. Cole and I both got the Ainsworth, which is their whatever-we-feel-like-combing-between-two-pieces-of-bread sandwich. Completely at their mercy, we were both presented with delicious (and different!) sandwich creations. After recovering all afternoon, we actually went back for dinner. Cole got Paul's Spicy Reuban and I got the Ainsworth again because hey, its not like I was getting the same thing! With its proximity to campus, free delivery and endless possibilities, I anticipate that this place will become a new favorite. Plus, I hear they make great Chicago-style hot dogs!

Redeeming the Week

This past week definitely had its ups and downs. I video-skyped in on my Family's Passover Seder in Houston, which was nice, but definitely made me homesick. I don't like the holiday all that much but now all I can think about is my mom's Matzoh ball soup. I sliced my index finger open while cleaning a food processor (of course, on my writing hand) and the wound kept re-opening. NOTE: they are actually very sharp! And to top things off, I had my worst class registration to date which involved--among many other things--the cancellation of the one art history course I was so looking forward to taking. However, I'm coping quite well as I relish all of the great things that happened in between:

A Toast for Passover

Passover starts tonight and I have to say I'm not excited. With my recent lack of appetite and my college budget, bread, crackers, pasta and rice have probably been making up about 70% of my diet and the idea of going with out them for a week seems kind of intolerable. Don't get me wrong, I will likely conform to the guilt and eat sans carbs. Weekend Thrills

This week has been long to say the least. After five days of little sleep and big stress, I'm so grateful for the weekend to relax and recuperate. I dropped by Cream Vintage (seen here and here) with my roommate on a whim yesterday afternoon and ended up finding an adorable sundress. I would post pictures, but, but the shop does in-house alterations and it was begging to be de-sleeved (trust me, they were awful) so those will have to wait until next week.

Food With Friends

On Monday, Cole and Candace took me out to dinner for my birthday. We went to Cafe Rabelais, an intimate French Cafe in downtown Houston. They change their menu daily, so they keep a list on large chalkboards on one of the walls. The food was delicious and we were all stuffed (they probably brought about ten baskets of bread to our table). Between the food, the presents, and the company, It was a really great, calm way to celebrate and it made me feel so incredibly lucky to have such amazing people in my life.

Today is my 20th birthday, and its an exciting and weird sensation. It feels a little like a whole new chapter of my life. On the other hand, according to my dear friend Candace, this is also the pivotal point where I must make the choice between preventative creams and aging gracefully (kidding--although I will definitely continue my daily regiment of face sunscreen). Recently, I have been looking back at how my style has changed since I entered the realm of teenager. UNTITLED NOTHING FACTORY

While my apartment remains under siege, now at the hands of large fans and de-humidifying contraptions, I thought I would take a moment or two to fill you all in on artist I interviewed last week (as mentioned here). Pardon me while I get a bit art-y.

With a journalism class assignment looming, I decided to write an event piece on Amanda Ross-Ho's exhibition in the UT Visual Arts Center, UNTITLED NOTHING FACTORY,
in which the viewer is asked to directly participate in the creative process. Amanda was very sweet and agreed to let me prod her with questions and scribble down notes if I promised to participate.

Neatly organized stations provide the space and materials for everyone to create clay vessels, stretched canvases, and handmade recycled paper (made from pieces collected around UT). The three products are meant to show the collective energy of mass activity. The blank canvas, piece of paper, and empty vessel all create the notion of vast potential.

Although the installation is broken up into workstations for the participant to join in producing the art, the installation is meant to be seen as a whole. "The space is a living work," said Amanda, "the mess is part of it." Canvas lines the floors, and any marks or stains it acquires become a part of the art.

Ross-Ho's intent was to create a space which would shift the roles of the viewer from observer to participant and artist through direct interaction. "I wanted to create an environment that is work, not just an environment of work," Amanda said, while molding a piece of clay into a pot.

The free exhibition provides an opportunity for college students and members of the community to expand how they define art. I for one, had a fantastic time meeting Amanda and learning how to stretch canvas--where else on campus will they let just anyone use a staple gun? NOWHERE!

The feeling you get when you hang your completed canvas on the wall, finish your paper, or put your vessel on one of the wooden carts really does exude potential in a way I did not expect. Having already gone in excited and enthusiastic, I was elated to have the exhibition exceed my expectations.

*Anyone is welcome to go and participate alongside Amanda during all regular visiting hours through February 11, at which point the artist will no longer be onsite and the installation will become static until the end of its run on March 12.

Little {Chilly} Thrills

The weather in Austin this past week has been unpleasant to say the least. Not only has it been very cold, but the wind has been unrelenting--making the walk to class almost unbearable. That is, until today. Very late last night it started snowing in West Campus and while I try not to be a total Texan getting excited about an inch of snow, I can't help but be slightly giddy. The prospect of staying warm inside with movies and soup (this my favorite boxed variety) makes me feel like I'm on holiday, made all the more sweeter by canceled classes.

Here's a few things that warmed up my week:

About an hour after I posted this, the fire sprinkler pipe right outside my apartment burst and my apartment flooded. We got really lucky, it only got to our living room and we moved everything out of the way--its just a major inconvenience on what would otherwise be a very peaceful weekend.

Weekend Thrills: Antonelli's Cheese Shop

On Saturday, Cole and I went to Antonelli's Cheese Shop after I did some late night web wandering and stumbled upon countless rave reviews. I can see why. First of all, this place is adorable. Second, the staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and go sample for sample with you as you satisfy every possible curiosity. In addition to an extensive collection of both local and imported cheeses, they have plenty of honey, chocolate, olives/peppers/capers, and charcuterie* to pair with them (not to mention beer and wine for all of you of-agers out there). If you like shops that are cute and foods that are delicious, go immediately.

As I am writing this, I am embarrassed to admit that I have actually forgotten the name of the cheese we purchased--but I can assure you, it was delicious. We also picked up some of the Salame Tartufo (salami with truffles), Finocchiona (a Tuscan salami with fennel), caperberries, and a loaf of Barrie Cullinan's Ciabatta bread. The bread, by the way, is amazing--they get it fresh every morning.

We brought our spoils back to Cole's apartment immediately to make sandwiches: toasted bread, spicy brown deli mustard, the delicious mystery cheese, and both sausages (caperberries on the side). It was definitely one of the best sandwiches I have ever had and I've been obsessing over it ever since.

*Until about 10 minutes ago, I had no idea what this term meant. Assuming some of you aren't meat experts, I figured I'd save you all the trouble of googling it yourselves.

Reformed Nail Biter

New Years Resolution # 9: stop biting my nails

I have yet to take even a nibble out of my pinkie since January 1st and with the help of this nail strengthener (courtesy of Candace's mom) my nails are actually strong and relatively long--well, for me at least.

The only drawback to my recent success? I can't stop buying nail polish. Granted, I didn't have much of a collection before (why would I? I had nothing to manicure!) but I think I'm bordering on excessive. Here are the lacquers I've collected since the beginning of this year (including some of the shades I was coveting here):

OPI Burlesque in 'Sparkle-icious': I love this one, its almost a little Mardi-Gras looking in the bottle, but it looks great on, especially over metallics.
OPI in 'Kiss on the Chic': just a great, pink nude polish and it looks great on toes
OPI in 'Mod About You': the only way to describe the shade is its a slightly lavender-ish pink white-out. It looks great on, Candace chose this color at her birthday manicure and we both immediately went out and purchased it.
OPI Burlesque in 'Tease-y Does It': it is almost identical to 'Lincoln Park After Dark' (an almost black plum purple), but with a subtle shimmer of red glitter infused in it. I got this shade for my mom, got jealous, and picked up a bottle to take back to Austin with me
Katy Perry for OPI in 'Teenage Dream': I have been impatiently awaiting the release of Katy Perry's collaboration with OPI since October when a friend directed me to this blog and instantly loved this shade. With the powder pink hue and excessive glitter, it is probably the single girliest thing I own. I'm currently wearing it on my toes and I can't help but scrunch them in delight every time I get a glimpse of their princess-y sheen
OPI Black Shatter: I'm not going to lie, I plan on stockpiling this stuff. If you haven't heard the hype, you paint a coat of this over dried nail polish and it instantly begins to crackle into a unique leopard-ish pattern (watch here). I've tried it over a couple different shades so far and I'm loving the look (and compliments!)
OPI in 'Bling Dynasty': Ok, this may be the one lacquer I could have done without. It looks great under glitter, but I think the olive undertones in this shade just don't go great with my skin. It wasn't quite as light as I would have hoped, but at least it wasn't a total wash. Lesson learned.
Sonia Kashuk for Target in 'Smoke and Mirrors': This silver hue is fantastic, but it takes forever to dry (I'm talking 30 min+ before you can even consider touching things). This proved to be a major downside to me. My best advice if you are using this brand is to put a good movie on and just let them dry while you relax.

Previously Owned Polishes/Additional Coats

Essie: I'm still unsure on this brand. I love the hues, but it just never seems to stick to my nails as well as other polishes (remedies/advice are welcome!). I own 'Greenport' (a muted blue turquoise), 'Turquoise & Caicos' (a seafoam turquoise), and 'Eternal Optimist' (a dusty pale pink shade they created exclusively for J. Crew). I love the colors, but I'm still not down on the consistency.

OPI Lacquer: the only other one I own is 'Lincoln Park After Dark', a shade I have used for several years. For all the pale (ahem, fair-skinned) people out there like myself, this color is a fantastic alternative to black. As mentioned above, its about the closest purple there is to black, leaving just enough color to prevent my colorless skin from looking like a corpse.

Base/Top Coat: I have always used OPI Natural Nail Base Coat and Original Top coat with no complaints. Are there better ones out there?

Boccioni's Man in Space

Today I went to my second round of new classes, one of which is in the stadium. I found this to be a bit strange, considering that I'm not a kinesiology major and lack a general inkling of athleticism. For those of you that don't go to UT or don't often find yourself on the outskirts of campus unless attending football games, the stadium is right next to the art building. This means that almost without exception, the area is populated only by athletic types and artist hipsters. Watching everyone walking by, I was inspired by the unlikely combination. It reminded me of countless contributions sports have made to the art world. Perhaps there is more to the campus layout after all...

As most people in Houston know, I have been going on and on about the pair of Jeffrey Campbell Mariel wedges I ordered and was impatiently waiting for. Finally, (and completely within the guaranteed 3 to 5 days I might add) they came on December 30th just in time for me to wear them out on new years eve.

I'm absolutely in love. After much debate over suede vs. leather, I decided to go with the suede. It may be a bit less practical, but I just couldn't resist the look. I got them at Solestruck.com, and if you haven't been to the website, it is fantastic. Reasonable prices, great service, and a handy email service if they are currently out of your size. Plus, they do free shipping and tell you if a shoe runs big or small.

I never got around to posting these, but while hanging out at the DOG & PONY blogger's happy hour, I picked up these great Olivia Gellman feather earrings. There are plenty of variations and colors, but I decided to go with these. The picture doesn't do them justice, but the feathers are a combination of a soft, pale sand color with a deep forest green, burgundy, golden brown and black and white stripes. I love them.

Isn't this saffron yellow scarf great? And for only about $12 at Target, it was a steal. (Oh yeah, and its extremely soft as well!)

This year, my friend Candace and I decided to tackle our new years resolutions a bit differently. We got cute journals from Anthropologie (I used this one, but there are plenty in stores not shown online) and wrote down 100 reasonable goals for 2011. I plan on using the journal as a record of all the fun stories that go along with accomplishing everything on my list. It may sound ridiculous, but it is actually making me more excited than ever to start a new year and share new experiences with all of you. xx

This has been a wonderful year, and while I hate to see it go I am excited for the prospect of an even better 2011. Starting this blog was a wonderful opportunity for me to share little pieces of my life with all of you. If you've been reading since this summer when I started it, thank you, and if you just started reading it thank you as well. I hope you've enjoyed it as much as I have.

Now obviously this is a bit extreme, but I have to say I did feel a bit like that rhino after my four and a half-th potato latke the other night. Not surprisingly, 25 year old photographer Di Liu was tackling a much more serious issue with his Animal Regulation series than an excess of holiday treats. Liu addresses the "conflicting relationship between nature and human society, generated by the rate of Chinese urban development." I was immediately sucked in to the seriousness of the picture. I am always astounded as to how anyone can manage to make such a serious statement or image out of something so seemingly silly (Lady Gaga, anyone?). They say you can make a serious argument infinitely stronger by successfully tackling the art of humor. Could the same be said in reverse? Could art's argument be made infinitely stronger by tackling humor seriously?

Little {Winter} Thrills

With Christmas and my family's belated Chanukah dinner off my list of looming events all I have left is new years to cultivate the perfect party outfit. While I wait rather impatiently for my new Jeffrey Campbell wedges to arrive (pictures will be in order) and marathon my way through Glee season 1, I can't help but feel the rejuvenation of spirit that December always brings. Even the littlest things get me giddy with the prospect of the new year ahead.

DIY: Budget Friendly Chic Gift Wrapping

Sorry I'm a little late with this post, I have been busy getting the house late for our belated family Chanukah dinner and trying desperately to come up with a gift for my boyfriend.

What you'll need:

a box with a lid (I used this one)

brown postal wrap
a quick dry adhesive

scotch tape

raffia

twigs with berries (you can usually find them at flower shops and nurseries)

Step 1: Wrap the box in postal wrap following these steps (attaching the folded side triangles with the quick dry adhesive so it won't fall apart)

Step 2: Make two rows of four dots in a diagonal row on one side of the box, staggered. Its easier if you use something like a note card to line it up.

Step 3: Poke holes where you made your marks. Its easier if you use a pin to poke a smaller hole and then use something like a narrow screw driver or pen tip to make it larger.

Step 4: Take a piece of raffia and weave the ends through the top two holes

Step 5: Weave both ends through the next hole on the row that started higher up

Step 6: Weave both ends through the hole across and then back through.

Step 7: Weave one piece through each of the last two holes.

Step 8: Slide two berry sprigs under the loops from the top and tighten the raffia if need be. Tie a bow at the bottom and cut off any excess raffia or twig.

Home for the Holidays

After much studying and anticipation, I'm finally back in Houston Suburbia. Not wanting finals to be my last memory of Austin before I hit the road, I rounded up my boyfriend Cole and friend Candace and had a bit of holiday fun. We drove down 37th street looking at the ridiculously tacky display of Christmas lights. My only regret is not getting out and walking around, because the block decorates their backyards for the public to explore (my grinchy friends would NOT let me go to the stuffed animal petting zoo!). Afterward we went ice skating in silly hats, which turned out to be much more strenuous than any of us had remembered, so we just went back to my boyfriend's apartment to drink hot apple cider and watch Harry Potter.

Candace and Cole left Austin the day before me, so I found a little place for us to have a goodbye lunch. We went to San Francisco Bakery & Cafe and it was absolutely adorable. They have a breakfast menu, quiche served all day, and a vast selection of soups, salads and sandwiches (many of which have avocado!). Cole ordered one of their pastries after lunch and it was fantastic. We were very happy to have found this nice little place.

What little things get you through the week?

Thanksgiving & Black Friday

This year, I set the table for thanksgiving (with a little inspiration from this). I did a lot of really simple little things, but I think it really made for a festive setting. For the centerpiece, I glued miniature pine cones to cinnamon sticks and tied small raffia bows around them; then I put them in wooden bucket with gravel to hold them in place.

I was also in charge of the pre-dinner snack. I chose to make roasted rosemary cashews and almonds with this recipe.

The recipe only calls for cashews, but I wanted a mix so I added some blanched almonds as well. They turned out great, with just the right amount of spice and savory goodness. I was a little worried with the cayenne pepper that it would be too spicy for some people (aka my mom), but the heat is mild and fades fast.

A wonderful thing happened yesterday at about 2:00 pm:

I'm not really one for the hustle and bustle of 'black Friday'. I don't care for fighting people for the last something-or-other, and I find long register lines to be exhausting. For some reason though, I decided to brave the outlet mall in hopes that maybe I would find some riding boots to fill a longstanding void in my closet. I found this pair at Cole Haan for $130 at 50% off the already marked down price. I love the sturdy, classic equestrian boot shape, and the ankle strap with the gunmetal buckle adds just a hint of biker edge that breaks up the preppy staple. Its safe to say I'm in love.

Sunday Brunch

This morning, my boyfriend took me to brunch at the adorable South Congress Cafe. When you are seated, they bring out a basket of mini cornbread muffins with honey butter. This may have been the best part--they will even replenish the basket and package some up with your leftovers to go if you ask!

For appetizers, we ordered the baked brie and butternut squash soup.The soup was so, so good and extremely creamy. For those of you who don't like butternut squash: ask your friend's if they will part with a bite--it may change your mind. The baked brie was amazing as well. They topped it off with habanero jelly, so it was sweet with just the right amount of spice.

Then, we ordered the crab cakes benedict and grits with shrimp and apple wood smoked bacon. Both were delicious, but I think I liked the grits the best.

The grits was a special, so unfortunately I can't promise that it will be there when you go but if you are lucky enough to be there on the right day, ORDER IT.

After brunch, we explored the surrounding parts of South Congress. We went to Big Top candy shop.

The whole place has a sort of 1920's circus feel with its vintage decor and mix of new and old time candy. Their was also an Italian soda bar--we got peach.

A few shops later, we stopped in to investigate Uncommon Objects. The place is stall after stall of vintage finds, ranging from small prints of birds (want) to old suitcases to mannequins. Although I walked away empty handed, I will definitely return.

All in all, it was a wonderful morning. Have a happy Thanksgiving week and check back for more posts!

PHInally back from a short hiatus

I know I took a sort of unannounced hiatus from blogging, but things got a bit hectic--I promise to make up for it though.

On Friday this year for Halloween I was a giraffe. I made this tank and bow (I'll post bow DIY instructions if anyone is interested?)

On Saturday, I repeated this Sailor Moon Costume from last year:

This past weekend, I was initiated into my sorority and am now officially a member of Texas AEPhi! I got a bunch of goodies from my big and I was extremely excited to receive a surprise visit from my mom, who came in from work in San Antonio for the Phi brunch.

My boyfriend and I were going to go to the Gypsy Picnic Trailer Food Festival, but by the time we got down there parking was nonexistent and they were running out of food. We wound up getting some Thai tacos at a trailer called 'A Touch of Fire'. If you like really (and i mean really) spicy Asian food, I highly recommend them--especially in the cold weather.

Afterward, we met my friends Sarah and Jenna at Whole Foods. While my boyfriend (who is a total foodie, if you haven't already guessed) scurried about the aisles like a kid in a toy store, I picked out some little luxuries to brighten my week:

Yerba Mate Latte loose tea so I can finally put my Le Creuset anniversary teapot (as seen here) to good use, and wildflower honey with honeycomb from a local honey farm.

SNACKING SUGGESTION:

Sublimely Saturday

Sometimes you have such a great day you just have to share:

First, my boyfriend and I went to Dog and Pony (a returning visit for me) to buy this Georgia Varidakis necklace I couldn't stop thinking about. I walked out wearing it, giddy and practically skipping.

Afterward, we went to Walton's Fancy and Staple for lunch. The place was adorable. In addition to the fancy spin on soups, sandwiches, and salads, they had a pretty extensive pastry counter. They even had fresh flowers and a cute gift section.

I got the Local salad with corn and crab chowder, and for dessert my boyfriend and I split a Parisian berry macaron and little cake called a 'golden egg'. I highly recommend this place, its perfect for a weekend brunch or lunch.

Missao/Missoes by Cildo Meireles

After lunch, we went to the Blanton Art Museum on campus. I'll post my other favorites later, but for now I am dying over this modern installation by Cildo Meireles.

Black tulle drapes enclose the square, paved walkway. Social commentary aside, stepping inside this space was entrancing. The pool of pennies radiates off of the cow bone ceiling, and the spine of the communion crackers makes you wonder whether you are in a work of art, or the belly of a mythical beast.

After the Blanton, we made a stop at the Ransom Museum to see the photography exhibit, and then went back to Cole's apartment to veg on the couch for a bit and watch comedy specials on Netflix.

For dinner, we went to Clay Pit, an Indian restaurant in West Campus. This was my first time with Indian food, (apart from a school project in which my group made Naan for the class) and I have to say it was fantastic. We ordered the Tandoori Chicken, fresh Naan, and my personal favorite, Korma (a cashew, almond, and pistachio cream sauce with garlic, shredded coconut and a touch of lemon) which I mistakenly ate over rice.

PCL Shooting

Yesterday was a sad day for Longhorns. In light of yesterday's events, I just want to say how grateful I am to have such amazing friends and family. My classroom was right next to the library, so I was on lock down for 3 and a half hours and I have to say at least the first hour or so was absolutely nerve wracking. I am so thankful no innocent bystanders were hurt, and hope to never experience anything like this again. My thoughts go out to the Tooley's family.

p.s. A special thank you to my lovely mother, who sponsored my post-lock-down luncheon at Suzies China Grill and Sushi Bar with the boyfriend. No pictures this time, but I'll take one for the team and go back so you can all see the grandeur that is the 'avocado bomb'.

Case of the Fundays

Today is the most beautiful day since I have been at college. The high for the day is 75 and sunny, there is a cool breeze, and most importantly, I got 8 hours of sleep. I've been really busy as of late, trying to find a balance with college life (hence my lack of blog posts), but today I feel as though I've turned over a new leaf (hence more blog posts!).

What I am currently craving:

I know I know, SHOCKING that I would want a Marc Jacobs laptop sleeve. Naturally, I daydream about slipping my fantasy Macbook Pro inside. Dare to dream.

Daily dose of art:
I thought everyone knew Oscar de la Renta (not personally, of course...oh I wish), but certain friends who shall remain nameless have proved this theory incorrect. He is definitely in my top five, and could arguably be my absolute favorite designer. I know he has produced two beautiful lines since, but I am still drooling over the fall 2010 collection. Perhaps it is the jewel tones and coats, or maybe a Rachel Zoe Project overdose (not possible), but its official: I'm in love.

Little Bitchy Moment:
I know I'm having a sunshiny day, but I'm not blind and I'm sorry but there is really no reason that I can think of as to why anyone would think liquid leather leggings are day-wear. Who do you think you are, girl-walking-down-Dean-Keaton-st, Heidi Montag? Put those things away until at least dinner time.

Creme de la Cream

Greetings from Houston. I made a relatively spontaneous move and decided to go home for Rosh Hashanah.

However, on my way out I finally cracked and dropped by the vintage store, Cream, right by my apartment complex. My intent was to try on a dress I had been window stalking, but naturally I found a couple things to try on. The girls there were so sweet, and I wound up walking away with two dresses (which I wore to high holidays services Friday and Saturday).

I will definitely be belting the dresses and pairing them with chunky jewelry and edgy accessories to counter the hyper-femininity.

I also found this vintage lace collar about a year and a half ago. It was my grandmother's, and initially I gave the discovery to my mom, but she has yet to even attempt wearing it so I'm reclaiming it to wear under fall sweaters.

Faux Monday

I would not consider myself a morning person. Not to say I am extraordinarily hostile, I'm just not all about loving life at 6:20. Monday mornings, my first class is at 10:00 so the weekend transition isn't too horrible.

However, I had a three day weekend due to Labor Day (not complaining, obviously). This threw off my schedule and hurled me straight into Tuesday: day of the dreaded 8am.

Now for me, it was an accomplishment to just get showered, throw on some shorts and a t-shirt and somehow make it out the door on time with an umbrella.

This was CLEARLY not the case for my classmate, one bubbly blond with perfect silky hair and full makeup, a delicately floral umbrella, and gold flats (which might I add, did not seem in the least bit wet, of course). What really put me over the edge though was her white sundress.
*psst, hello? White dress? DAY AFTER LABOR DAY

Are you kidding me? Please, dress even more perfect. The rest of us weren't feeling average looking enough today. Whoever you are, perfect Anthropologie model, you need to cut it out really quick. Give the rest of us a chance and save your little ensembles for days when the weather is more agreeable. No one likes an over achiever.

Yesterday was my last day at PEEL. I did some work for the upcoming Libby Black show, If Nothing Else Matters, and then Steve took me out to lunch with his girlfriend Michelle and a friend of theirs. After lunch, I finished up the press release and in a somewhat symbolic way, we packed up the last show and unpacked the next one. I'm excited about going to UT, but I'm still going to miss everyone, and that I won't be spending two days a week submerged in art. I'm definitely going to have to come back for the Libby Black opening, and I'm going to be on the search this next year for great art in Austin.

This is going to sound very odd, sounds very odd, but for reasons unknown, I have always avoided the LBD (little black dress).

I think it has something to do with the concept, being that it is timeless, classic, and a vital staple in every girl's wardrobe.

Unfortunately, I need a black cocktail dress for rush (yes, I'm rushing), so I have been frantically searching for one that I can at least fall in like with.

Considering my usual habit of ravenously lusting over dress after dress after dress, it seems strange that I would shy away from one. I think it is the notion of long term commitment, scrambled with the fear of missing out on better options.

The ones that will be in the show are not up here (and not definite as of last Friday), but below is a video interview, explaining the idea behind the artwork she will display at PEEL (sans the lesbian erotica novel covers). I can't wait to see her work in person!

Night Out: Jewtopia

Last night, I went with my BFF Becky, my boss (Steve), and his lovely girlfriend (Michelle) to see Jewtopia, courtesy of the production company that threw their fundraiser at Peel Gallery.

The show was a bit over the top, but very, very funny. Becky and I will be making 'mock lobster' jokes for weeks! If you're Jewish, or have a moderate grasp of Yiddish, this play will crack you up for sure.

Having had both before, I can attest that they are both worth the $2.00 (and that is coming from a college student with no salary, free refills hello??). We split a piece of Tollhouse Cake. No explanation of deliciousness necessary.

Today, Cole came to the gallery to see the show. I was really excited to show him around.

To keep in theme, we went out to lunch at none other than Empire Cafe. I have to say, it was the first time I've actually had their food. It was delicious! I got the Corsica Pasta (substitute: angel hair) and Cole got the Eggplant Panini. We shared my Shrimp Bisque. It was all fantastic. Who wants to go with me tomorrow?

My Guild Shopping Finds

Yesterday I went thrift shopping, at Houston's infamous Guild Shop. I originally went with the intent to find some apartment furniture, but quickly redirected my attention to, well--just about everything.

This bone china teacup will go great with my mismatched array of teapots. Plus, the saucer obviously makes it intensely classy. Obviously.

I'm still debating whether or not to paint the cream insert of this frame a lacquered black. What do you think?

Okay, don't judge for what I'm about to tell you. So I'm browsing through the dresses, avoiding florals darting at me left and right, when out of the corner of my eye I see the most adorable dress--on another girl's arm.

Naturally, I do what any thrift shopper would do: I casually stalk. You know, I skim the other dresses (who am I kidding, at that point there are NO other dresses) while keeping an eye on my prize, praying that this chick won't walk away with my dress.

Luckily, it was discarded by my predecessor (and actually fit!).

Seven bucks later, the dress is mine.

Anthroversary

Last Thursday was my boyfriend and my one year anniversary. We were both busy this week, so we decided to celebrate last night.

Cole was very secretive about our plans. First, he surprised me with an orange Le Creuset teapot with an infuser. Not that I need another teapot (this makes 4 total), but I have always adored all things Le Creuset, particularly in orange. Isn't great when boyfriends listen?

We went to Anthropologie and I finally got my apron, courtesy of Cole (!!!). I went through a great deal of debate, and finally decided on one I've wanted for a while. Then, we stepped across the street to grab a bite at Rockfish (my first time!) and I fed my fish taco addiction.

Afterward, we stopped by Hubbell & Hudson to get some dessert. Instead, we sampled a bunch of candy and bought some expensive cheese.

I found my round Cynthia Rowley sunglasses the other day and I was so excited to wear them today (with an Express black jersey romper, a colorful woven belt, and my BCBG wedges)!

On a slightly different note, I am in love with the rounded wayfarer look. I think next week I'm going to have to take a tiny detour from furniture browsing to look for a vintage pair.

While browsing Design Boom recently, I came across these fantastic creations by Stephanie Casper. It is a collection of knitted meats on Styrofoam trays. I feel like I may get a few strange looks for saying this, but I'm really into them. There is something so kitschy and fantastic about this! I want to decorate my kitchen with them. Brilliant.

I stopped by my grandparents old house the other day to scout some potential furniture (which was a bit strange). While I didn't cart away any end tables that day, I picked up a few odds and ends, including my grandmother's copy of The Joy of Cooking (I think it's more special that way anyhow).

Last night I went to see Inception with my boyfriend and friend, Candace. It was fantastic. However, the movie was so long and intense, Candace and I didn't feel we fully grasped it and thus decided to stick around for the next showing 15 minutes later (and yes, we paid again).

In lieu of the usual movie popcorn and gummy candies (which we purchased for the second showing), I decided to indulge my craving for chocolate and brought in what may have become my current chocolate craze. It's all in the salt flakes.

The Austin Road Trip

This past weekend, I went to Austin to hang out with friends, load up on Kirby queso, and perhaps find some furniture inspiration. While we didn't have much extra time for shopping around (or going to the art museum on campus *sniffle*), there was much fun to be had. I finally saw the apartment my boyfriend and friend Chris are living in next year. The place looked great (nothing like the typical college guy's pad). ~~Major props to Chris's mom, whom I believe was the decorator.~~
EDIT: Chris was the decorator of the apartment, not his mother. Did I mention he has impeccable taste and fashion sense?

On Saturday, we all went out to San Marcos to float on the river. It was scorching hot outside, so the river was a refreshing change of pace. When we got back, my boyfriend cooked dinner for me, Candace and Chris (chicken, zucchini, and some delish macaroni and cheese).

After two good nights out and very little sleep, I did a quick posting of some parking-spot-wanted fliers around my future apartment complex and we made our way back to Houston.

Architectural Bracelet, Lena Hulsmeier

When I arrived at the gallery the other day, Steve told me I could pick one of the Hulsmeier bracelets to keep! I had been eyeing them for weeks, so naturally I was thrilled and spent the rest of the day trying to decide between purple, green, and orange. After asking for dozens of opinions, I decided to go with my gut and choose green. I just love it.

I am going to Austin this weekend with my boyfriend and my friend, Candace. It is shaping up to be a great time (we may stop in at the Blanton art museum on campus!), and I'll post after I get back. In the meantime, here is some art that I have been loving recently:

Matisse's Snail

Okay, so this one isn't necessarily 'recent', but I can't help it. I love this painting. Isn't it just lovely? I studied it in modern art last semester and I am obsessed. The simplicity, the symbolism, just everything. I'm in love.

Zodiac Crayons by Diem Chau

Now this is more recent. Some of Chau's work is currently on preview at Peel Gallery (including some crayons, and a few carved pencils) for a later show. I know this looks interesting online, but I highly advise you to go check these out in person, because they are surprisingly mesmerizing. Some of her other works currently on display include china plates and teacups with stitched silk pictures on them. Her work is truly incredible.

As promised, here are some decor inspirations for my apartment. I really like clean, modern lines, mixed with a vintage antique feel. Unfortunately, I often have tastes that exceed my college student budget. Even so, I try to find ways to instill my personal style with more cost-friendly items (that is, until I can buy the real deal!).

I am definitely picking up that fox pillow, and I really want that bookcase, wooden platter, and table with chairs.

Here are a few things I had/have recently purchased. I haven't worried about anything major yet, just a few odds and ends. I have always been a fan of Ikea, but I guess I hadn't been there in a while, because I forgot what great design items they have! I made shrimp tacos for my boyfriend and I last night (for all you Kosher Jews, make it fish). I used the recipe below for the black bean salad, although I think next time I'm replacing the feta with Mexican white cheese. Just make the salad, warm up some corn tortillas, and pan cook some shrimp (or fish!) with garlic, olive oil, and lime juice (Cole did it for me this time!). Serve with avocado slices and lime wedges. I started it off with a cilantro jalapeno ranch dip (recipe from my friend Lindsey, below), which of course we drizzled on our tacos.

Cilantro Ranch Dip:
1 16 oz. tub of sour cream (I use light)
1 packet of ranch dip mix
1/3 cup of cilantro
2 oz. canned jalapeno, if you want a little kick
mix in blender until smooth, then let chill for 1-2 hours in the fridge

This meal was especially great, because the next day I had some of the salad with a chicken breast drizzled in the dressing. Delicious. (WARNING: NOT KOSHER)

Gallerina for a Night

BCBG Wedge Sandals, Essie Polish in Eternal Optimist

I was cutting it close to the gallery opening, and unless i was going to change my dress or go barefoot (neither of which were options), I was in dire need of tan sandals. It is times like these that I think we are the most fashionably adventurous. Not to say we pick more controversial things, but we try on things we normally would have overlooked. I never would have tried these on ordinarily, but I gave it a shot in the dark and they were adorable! I'm not sure I'm done with neutral-toned shoes, (I need a winter friendly pair!) but for now these are fantastic and QUITE comfortable.

While at the gallery yesterday, I took a quick break to head over to Kraftsmen Baking Cafe for a vanilla ice coffee (they had sugar free syrup! rejoice!). It was a recommendation of Steve's and I have to say he was right, this place was adorable. It is right next to the Montrose Public Library and there is ivy everywhere, with lots of shaded tables. I will definitely return.

The gallery opening was great! Lots of people turned out and the show looked fantastic (a special thank you to my friends who came out to see what I have been doing down there). If you are in Houston, you really need to come see this show. Now that the video projection on the floor is up and running, the space is stunningly beautiful. It is the epitome of design art. I have yet to see the art downstairs at the Wade Wilson Gallery (I have heard good things), but the exhibits at the Anya Tish Gallery and Barbara Davis Gallery are fantastic as well (and in the same building!), so it is definitely worth a visit.

I have to say, the ceramic works by Wesley Harvey at Anya Tish were absolutely divine. It was a plethora of bunnies, tea cups, and woodland creatures. I have met the artist a few times around the building now, and he is just as sweet as his art.

When I got home after the opening, I had a spinach and chicken stuffed portobello my dad had made (SO good) and we made maple candies together, which have turned out delicious.

I am going apartment supply shopping today with Candace, and my main goal is to find new ways to organize my shoes, purses and jewelry. I will now have sliding closet doors and therefore can no longer hang things off of the doors the way I used to. Suggestions?

Perfect Summer

Last Monday I went to my transfer orientation in Austin, accompanied by my dad. I must have missed the memo on course registration, because mine was a breeze. I got into every class I wanted, including journalism. Then, I finally got a UT football jersey (I have been coveting for about two years now, but refused to get one until I was officially a student).

It was my dad's birthday, so we met up with my mom for sushi here (a bit far from campus, but the avocado bombs are well worth the trek).

After being in Austin, I have had a resurgence of enthusiasm for apartment shopping. I will be posting some style inspirations and items I have been craving lately very soon.

When I arrived back home, I received a very belated birthday gift from my friend, Lindsey (shown above). A note to all of my friends out there: the easiest way to find a gift for me, is to shop with me. I tend to be very vocal about the things I love, whether I purchase them or not. Just a hint.

It should not come as a shock to anyone that lately I have been hooked on Bravo's Work of Art: the Next Great Artist. If you like art (or Bravo reality competitions in general) it is a match made in heaven. Last night, my boyfriend came over and we watched the new Top Chef for him, and Work of Art for me, back to back. Clearly, this is evidence that the network producers are basing their summer lineup on my specific needs. Fantastic.

The other night, my boyfriend came over to help me make soft pretzels from scratch. It turned out to be a little more complicated and time consuming than I anticipated, but we still had a good time. While we were waiting for the dough to rise, Cole taught me how to flip an egg without a spatula. Instead of practicing on countless eggs, he started me out flipping some of the frozen grapes we were eating. It turns out, flipping grapes is much harder than flipping eggs. After flinging a bunch of them all over the kitchen, I graduated to the egg. While I'm not really an egg eater myself, this made it really fun to cook! I can't wait to make eggs for anyone who will sit still long enough to watch this 'breakfast and a show'.

Okay. I assessed my closet this morning while I was getting ready. Final Verdict? I am cutting myself off from buying floral dresses. I know this seems drastic, but let me explain. I have a staggering 15 flowery numbers hanging in my closet. I don't know about you, but it seems rather excessive to me. I know I have a problem because even as I am writing this, a little voice inside my head is saying "but what if I find one that's really special?!". No. No more. You are all going to have to help me in this endeavor. Please don't let me stray.

Finally! I found my teapot! I know it's a bit over the top but I couldn't resist.

I have kept true to my summer goals so far this week. I went through my closet and drawers and cleared out a large laundry basket full of clothes. I'm not sure I have downsized enough yet, but it is a good start (its so hard!). In looking through my clothes, I realized how much my tastes have changed. I no longer have a need for six denim mini skirts, dozens of printed tees, and one of those awful tweed jumpers. Now, I have room for the pieces that will get some use. I'm going to try to only buy things I really love.

I also finally collected all of the books on my summer reading list. I have a LOT to cover (yes, that's Harry Potter)

Busy Bee

This week was particularly busy but I'll summarize:

I got a job babysitting 3 days a week, which fits perfectly in with my two-day-a-week gallery schedule. All this really means is I will probably be buying more clothes to show all of you. I'm just so happy to be making money again. The lack of funds was almost enough to be a buzz kill on my internship.

On Tuesday, I made homemade caramels. They are delicious.

Last Thursday, I stayed late at the gallery to help with the Jewtopia (an off broadway play coming to Houston) fundraiser and meet-the-cast party. They did a scene from the play (which was fantastically hilarious) and served kosher paella and wine. All the people were great, Steve sold some jewelry, and I was on the road home a little after 11.

Now that my week has more structure, I thought it was time to revisit summer goals:

Read some books (this means I need to devise a summer reading list)
Hunt for some cool vintage finds for the apartment
Attend a few concerts (Devandra Banhart possibly, thanks for the tip Steve!)
Expand my cooking repertoire.
Make a summer playlist
Downsize my closet to make room for new finds
learn how to French braid my own hair
Buy the perfect teapot
Make more time to have lunches, brunches, and dinners with my friends
Make a weekend trip to Dallas, as well as Austin
Take more walks after dinner

Alaskan Cruise

I just got back from the annual family vacation (which happened to be an Alaskan cruise). While it was definitely nice to escape the Houston heat for a week, I have to say its nice to be back to my sundress routine without fear of freezing. I knew if I didn't write things down, my week would have blended together, so I wrote everything down on an envelope I found in my stateroom.

Saturday, June 12th
We woke up early to take our four hour flight to Seattle (the view from the plane window was incredible). When we got settled into our hotel, we went to the Red Mill Burger for lunch (from Man vs. Food, because I'm a Travel Channel junkie). After that, we took a tour of underground Seattle, which was really interesting. Despite the warnings, Seattle was 75 and sunny all day. For dinner, we walked around on the pier and finally ate at The Crab Pot (also from Man vs. Food) where they dump seafood out on your table and give you a mallet. Genius.

Sunday, June 13th
Since the fam was much too tired the day before to traipse the city any longer, we woke up early to go to the Space Needle in the morning. We first stopped in at the 5 Point Cafe & Bar for breakfast, which was an authentic and delicious experience. The Space Needle was as expected: very tall, with a great view. Then we grabbed our bags and went on to board the ship. While the ship sailed away, we enjoyed our complementary bottle of sparkling wine on the rents' balcony in classy porcelain mugs. For dinner, we ate at the ship's French restaurant. The food was great, but what I really loved were the gorgeous Versace plates. I'm obsessed.

Monday, June 14th
It was our first day at sea, and we seemed to be one hour off on all meal times. I think we were the only four people on the ship not constantly eating. After a day of relaxing and drinks with dad, we got dressed up for the 'formal' night (this was the most informal cruise I've ever been on). After dinner, we went to see a Frankie Valley and the Four Seasons tribute band (which was surprisingly good and kid you not, named 'Oh What a Night'), and a comedy show.

Tuesday, June 15th.
Our first Port was Juneau, Alaska. We took a boat whale watching tour where we saw countless whales (including a mom and its baby that would mimic its jumping and waving tricks), a seal colony, and about a dozen bald eagles. Later that night, per my mother's request, we went to the nightly game show which happened to be the 'Not so Newlywed Show'. It turned out to be very amusing (I'm just glad my parents weren't on it).

Wednesday, June 16th
Our Second port was Skagway, Alaska. We boarded a 'fast' ferry to Haines, Alaska for a rafting trip through the bald eagle reserves. I heard the view was beautiful, but alas, I slept through it. Upon our arrival, we boarded a bus to the river and I promptly began nap, Vol. 2. In case you were wondering, rafting in cold weather calls for only the highest of fashions (as seen below). A beautiful rafting trips (although we only saw four eagles), two more traveling naps, and a sushi snack later, we decided to explore downtown Skagway. Despite the tourist-y areas, it was actually quite charming. There was even a Sarah Palin store (not kidding), complete with mock license plates, hockey mom trophies, bulldog lipstick, a Joe (root beer) six-pack, and much more. Besides the life size cut-out of Palin, the cashier was dressed to a tee in her likeness. When we got back, we attended some juggling show where my dad and I had a disappointing run-in with a strange drink called the 'lemonito'. Afterward, I began to feel under the weather, so I went back to my room early and tried to rest.

Thursday, June 17th
I was lucky to have been sick on what happened to be our last day at sea. While there was no port, we were passing through an area referred to as Glacier Bay. Lest I miss anything, my parents transferred me to their room, so I could see stuff out their balcony window (kids don't get windows) while I laid pitifully in their bed. The view was beautiful, although I really wasn't feeling well. My family berated me about eating cheerios and took countless pictures of me curled up in the covers while I tried to get some rest. By evening, I had mustered up enough strength to go with them to a comedy sketch show which was OK. Then I called it a night.

Friday, June 18th
The third port was Ketchikan, Alaska. This was my favorite Alaskan port by far. It was supposed to rain, but it was sunny and almost warm (no jacket necessary!). We woke up bright and early to go zip-lining in the rain forest. It was so thrilling and beautiful, and not scary at all, considering my fear of heights. At the end, we got a close up look at some adorable reindeer. Then, we got back to the town for some shopping. Mom got some earrings, and I got this great silver ring with an inset of Mammoth Ivory (fossilized, obviously). We ate at the ship's steak restaurant for dinner and saw some very strange dancer show afterward entitled 'Geisha Gardens'. I would tell you how it was, but I slept through it. I heard it was terrible and confusing.

Saturday, June 19th
Our last port was Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Because it was the only real city, I won't rank it among the other ports but it was by far one of my favorites. The parliament building was so beautiful (and it lit up at night!). We took a taxi downtown to shop, browse the artisan tents on the pier, and take in the local characters. There were countless Irish, British, and Scottish pubs lining the streets, filled with lively locals. While I am of age to drink and be merry in Victoria, alas, Jacob is not, so we ate at the Oyster bar (though none of us ordered oysters). I had chili prawns which were delicious and a bite of my dad's tuna tataki. I finally picked up a pair of shorter mocs (which I have been lusting after for years ever since I didn't buy a pair in New Mexico).

Sunday, June 20th
We spent Father's Day in the Seattle Airport. Four hours later, we finally made it back to the steaming humidity of Houston. Home at last.

Alaskan Cruise Garb?

I'm not exactly sure what to wear on my family-vacay Alaskan cruise. My mother has been drilling into my head for the past few weeks that it is painfully casual, yet cold. Since I have been on the outs with jeans for about a year and a half now, I'm pretty sure this is going to be a spandex extravaganza. Just a thought.

Monday, May 31st (Memorial Day):
My dad, brother, and I went to a family friend's home for a pool party. Naturally, we were the scrooges who did not swim. Afterward, we did some shopping, and that about wrapped up our Memorial Day.

Tuesday, June 1st:
I woke up early to go grocery shopping with Nicola for a small dinner party that evening. All went well until I dropped and broke a glass jar of red sauce at my feet. I felt so bad, but I had to slowly squish my flip-flops over to the bathroom to rinse off my feet! (thank goodness I chose that day to just throw on some flip-flops!) For those of you who are friends with Nicola, she would be more than happy to share a photo of the event with you via text. After that ordeal, I took my brother out for a mini day of bonding. We saw Iron Man 2, which was very good. Then, we went out for lunch at Chuy's. Then, we went to the store to buy him some junk food and some Seth McFarlane DVD which turned out to be awful. Then, I started cleaning and setting up for the dinner party. It turned out a bit stressful when Nicola was running late and the kitchen was a bit too full of cooks, but after a quick costume change into last week's Anthro dress purchase, and a few minor set backs, the dinner was an overall success! (in attendance were Nicola, Candace, Cole, Andrew, and Luke)

To say I overslept is an understatement. I do not remember the last time I slept past noon. Not much to report, just some minor job hunting to fill in my week and make some extra cash to feed my shopping habits.

Thursday, June 3rd
Day three at Peel Gallery. One thing that is really great (besides the experience, obvi) is the music Steve plays in the background is really good. I ran a bunch of errands, actually. I went to Office Depot, Palmer Packaging, the post office, and several places on the quest for a 24x24x12" box. Naturally, I was held up by a crossing train going both directions, AND it started to rain. When I returned, I cut a $25,000 dress made of cup-cake doilies with a coffee filter train out of a box. Not surprisingly, it is a tad bit nerve wracking to cut into a box containing something made of paper that costs more than your car and college tuition combined. Luckily, there were no problems, and the dress was stunning. After leaving, I made a quick stop at Urban Outfitters to pick up a dress I had been eying for a while (not on the website, but I will post pictures later).

Friday, June 4th
I wore said new dress with tights, flats, and my chunky fossil watch. Got to the gallery, and Steve left for a meeting. Then, a lovely woman came in wanting to look at a ring she had been eying the day before. We had a good time, chatting and trying on jewelry. She left temporarily to go home and eat a ham sandwich (adorable!), and then came back to buy the ring and a few bracelets. Later, I had to go mail the paper dress from the day before, and had my first run-in with international shipping (NOT my fave). After several trips to the front of the line, a quick trip back to the gallery, and filling out an entirely new custom's form, I finally got that thing on its way back to the artist in London. After we closed the gallery, instead of going to an opening at the Craft Center that I was interested in, I booked it to the other side of town to make it to my interview at Nine West Shoes. I think it went well. Then I had a LATE dinner with Cole at what the Chronicle claims is the "best burger in town." Survey says: delicious.

Saturday, June 5th (today)
I am FINALLY having my/my mom's family birthday dinner at my grandma's house (our birthday is March 13th). It's Greek food (yay! stuffed grape leaves!)

Sunday, May 16th
Lindsey and I made an appearance at the Langham Creek band banquet. Lindsey, reigning flute princess, was to present crowns to her predecessors. Naturally, I came along for the opportunity to slip on a shiny dress and some pumps.

Monday, May 17th
I agreed to accompany Lindsey on a quest to Bryan-College Station, Texas to deliver her Apartment deposit. She took me to the critically acclaimed 'Spoons', a local frozen yogurt spot. It is EXACTLY like Swirll, except that they did have raspberries. Final Assessment: it was nice, but the additional mix-ins and lackluster mall were not enough to make me wish I was an Aggie (sorry, Linds!).

Tuesday, May 18th
Not a very eventful day. I cleaned the entire downstairs of my house, and watched Bravo all day.

Wednesday, May 19th
I drove my brother to school at 6:50 (a task I have been trusted with all week). When I got home, rather than going back to sleep, I cleaned my room AND closet entirely (for those of you who know me well, this is a hefty feat). All before 10:00 when Nicola picked me up for a trip to Anthropologie. I found a dress on sale, I'm in love (for those of you who know me, this is a common occurrence, as I am very much a clothing whore). Then I came home and cooked dinner: Jalapeno cornbread-stuffed chicken breast, green beans, creamed spinach, and extra cornbread for Jacob.

Thursday, May 20th
I Donned my new dress, blue sandals, a cardi, and a vintage Dooney&Bourke, and headed to Montrose. I met Batli at this really cute place she picked, Empire Cafe. We ordered this coffee drink called the 'Milky Way'. Although not extremely coffee-ish, it was delicious. Then I went to meet with the owner of the art gallery I will be helping out at this summer. I had trouble finding the parking lot, so I had to book it around the block to make it on time. Success! Then I came home, picked up my brother, and took him shopping for a shirt and tie for his girlfriend's theater banquet. Later, I did something I regret: I made Cole watch the new episode of The Real Housewives of New York with me. I really like to think I'm not the kind of girl to do that sort of thing, but I guess we are all guilty of it from time to time. I just couldn't miss it! The commercials were so enticing with Kelly's dramatic freak-out. It was probably the most entertaining yet. Totally worth it.

Friday, May 21st
I dropped Jacob off at school, then ran a few errands. Apparently, this week I truly have gone into housewife-mode. As if the cooking, almost compulsive cleaning, and carpooling weren't enough, it seems I descended upon Target just as the stay-at-home mom crowd arrived. When I returned, I had spring rolls for lunch with Cole. Then finally, my dad got home and my parenting duties were relinquished.

Saturday, May 22nd
At 12:00 I picked up my brother from band practice and took him to Mission Burrito for Lunch. Afterward, I went with my dad to HEB where we purchased a variety of cheeses and wines, along with the makings of Pad Thai with stir-fry vegetables. When we got back, Cole came over with Thai Chili Pad Thai for us (I was definitely craving this!) and we watched Sherlock Holmes with my dad. Cole was psyched about the cheese. Okay, so was I.

Sunday, May 23rd
Nothing of particular interest happened, other than the Lost series finale. Considering that I never kept up with the show, this was of mild importance.

Art:
My current obsession with all things BRAVO has led me to discover the quirky show Nine by Design. I love the style, but it also lends itself to promoting some really great contemporary artists. Plus, the kids are adorable.

I just finished my first year of college, and this fall I will be attending the University of Texas at Austin (hopefully in the Communication school!). I want to double major in magazine journalism and modern art history. As of right now, I think I'll use this to detail any interesting happenings in my life, as well as current thoughts, and art I'm looking at at the moment.
